The Tyne and Esk Young Writer of the Year Competition was organised by the Midlothian Library Service and East Lothian Libraries. The competition was open to pupils P4-7 in primary school and S1-4 in secondary school. There were over 700 entries from all over Midlothian and East Lothian. The high standard of entry is testament to the rich imaginative and creative talent of the youngsters.

We are delighted to announce that from over four hundred entries from Midlothian Schools, the winning writers are-

Carly Howarth (12yrs) from Woodburn PS, writer of a poem entitled, Being Blind

Erin Munro (14yrs) Dalkeith HS writer of a poem entitled, Defeat the Label

Sophie McDonald (10yrs) Cornbank PS, writer of a prose piece entitled, It’s a Dog’s Life

The overall Secondary winner is Rachel Ferguson (13yrs) from Eskbank, Dalkeith who wrote a prose piece entitled, Life in My Eyes.
